Love It/Hate It: Bow Ties

Over the past couple of years, it seems the bow tie has been making it’s comeback. It’s all over pop culture and it’s all over grooms and groomsmen everywhere. We credit it’s resurrection to two areas.

ONE: Even boys like to dress up a little bit and a black bow tie is the ultimate way to really dress fancy.

TWO: A bow tie can play a few roles: Super formal (thanks to the black bow tie) and casual/trendy/preppy (compliments of the popularity of plaid, dotted, and striped bow ties).

A bow tie can be dressed up or dressed down. It’s fun, can be quirky, but can also be an appropriate accessory for a black tie affair. And ultimately, it makes your groom feel special.

A bow tie isn’t something he wears on a regular day. He doesn’t wear it to work, he doesn’t wear it to church. He only wears it for special nights. Just like your wedding dress makes you feel like the star of the night, maybe his bow tie does the same for him.

So what do you think? Love it or Hate it? Will you dress your man a bow tie? Perhaps as a dapper groom in an elegant black bow tie, pair a sear-sucker bow tie to his suit for a preppy look, or dress him in funky plaid or paisley print bow ties? Or will you stick with a straight neck tie he’s used to?
